Public Works Outsourced to Engineering Subsidiary
ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Willdan Group, Inc. ("Willdan") (NASDAQ:WLDN) today announced
that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Willdan Engineering, was awarded a
significant new contract with the City of Elk Grove, a community of more
than 140,000 residents located near Sacramento, California, to provide
the City's Public Works services. The contract will commence January 1,
2011. The contract has a three-year base with three optional one-year
extensions.
Richard W. Shepard, Elk Grove's Public Works Director, remarked that the
new outsourcing contract with Willdan is expected to bring significant
cost savings to the City which will allow for improved services. The
City, which outsources a number of municipal services, selected Willdan
for its depth of experience and cost efficiency. Where previously the
City hired multiple firms to provide services, the City Council opted to
consolidate all Public Works services under a single contract with
Willdan.
The services that Willdan will provide encompass three major areas—city
engineering services, capital improvements, and operations and
maintenance—including repair and improvements to city streets and
lighting and drainage systems. Willdan will retain up to 40 employees
from a previous service provider that worked for the City, as well as
manage a group of subcontractors and subconsultants.
Daniel Chow, Willdan Engineering's Chief Executive Officer, remarked, "Willdan
is pleased to have the opportunity to serve the City of Elk Grove and
its residents by providing exemplary services to the Public Works
Department."
"The outsourcing model that the City of Elk Grove has chosen, with
senior city management staff oversight, can serve as a model that other
municipalities may choose to adopt in order to optimize efficiency,
enhance customer service, and minimize costs to their residents," Mr.
Chow added.
